Alibaba to Launch ChatGPT Rival with AI

Alibaba, the Chinese technology giant, has recently announced its plans
to launch a new artificial intelligence (AI) product, Tongyi
Qianwen. This AI technology will operate in a ChatGPT-style format, similar to the
Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which was released in November
2021.

Alibaba’s cloud computing unit has stated that they will integrate the
chatbot across all of the company’s businesses in the near future,
although no specific timeline has been provided.

Alibaba, the Chinese technology giant, has recently announced its plans
to launch a new artificial intelligence (AI) product, Tongyi Qianwen. This
AI technology will operate in a ChatGPT-style format, similar to the
Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which was released in November
2021.

Alibaba’s cloud computing unit has stated that they will integrate
the chatbot across all of the company’s businesses in the near future,
although no specific timeline has been provided. The name is Tongyi
Qianwen roughly translates to “seeking an answer by asking a thousand
questions,” a fitting title for an AI chatbot that can learn from past
data to create content indistinguishable from human work.

The company’s chairman and CEO, Daniel Zhang, believes that Tongyi
Qianwen will mark a technological watershed moment driven by generative AI
and cloud computing.Initially, Tongyi Qianwen will be added to DingTalk,
Alibaba’s workplace messaging app. It will perform many tasks, including
turning conversations in meetings into written notes, writing emails, and
drafting business proposals, among others.

Alibaba has also announced plans to integrate Tongyi Qianwen into Tmall
Genie, similar to Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant smart speaker. Tongyi
Qianwen will be capable of working in both English and Chinese.Alibaba is
not alone in the development of generative AI chatbots. Technology
companies worldwide have recently unveiled their own versions, including
Alphabet’s Google, and Chinese technology group Baidu.

Microsoft embedded ChatGPT in its Office apps in February, including
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The development of generative AI has
surged since the release of ChatGPT by Microsoft-backed OpenAI in
November.

ChatGPT can answer questions using natural, human-like language and mimic
other writing styles using the internet as it was in 2021 as its database.
Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in the technology and has
incorporated it into its search engine Bing.On Tuesday, China’s cyberspace
regulator unveiled draft measures for managing generative AI.

The proposed rules state that companies would be responsible for the
legitimacy of data used to train the technology, according to the
Cyberspace Administration of China. The public has until 10 May to provide
feedback on the proposals.

Last month, a group of high-profile figures in the technology industry,
including Twitter CEO Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, signed
an open letter warning of potential risks associated with AI technology.
They called for the training of robust AI systems to be suspended amid
fears of a threat to humanity, stating that the race to develop AI systems
is out of control.
